Captain Marvel Adventures # 21 Shazam Golden Age Feb 1943 with Hitler Nazi CGC Lot
Very, very rare and one of the greatest comics to show a superhero going after Hiter and the Nazis (best is probably Captain America # 1; I would place these second). You are looking at a (2) graded lot of Captain Marvel Adventures issue # 21. These comics came out February 1943 and you get the two comics graded by CGC. You get the 3.5 grade and the 5.5 grade. Serial numbers are as follows: for the 3.5, it is #0144204004 and for the 5.5, it is # 0314140003. On the cover, it shows Shazam unleashing on Hitler and his Nazi party. Only 38 graded in the world by CGC and rarely do these come up on the market. Did you know that Captain Marvel, aka Shazam (who is featured on this early comic and made his debut in Whiz Comics) was more popular than every single superhero to include Superman? In fact, Captain Marvel was so popular that he was the first superhero to get his own movie in 1941. Captain Marvel , also known as Shazam, is a superhero debuted in 1940 in the 2nd issues of Whiz Comics. DC Comic artists, C. Beck and writer Bill Parker created the character in 1939. Published by Fawcett Comics before being taken over by DC Comics, Captain Marvel was the alter ego of Billy Batson , a boy who, by speaking the magic word ” SHAZAM ” (acronym of six “immortal elders”: Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury), can transform himself into a costumed adult with the powers of superhuman strength, speed, flight and other abilities. Based on book sales, the character was the most popular superhero of the 1940s, outselling even Superman. Captain Marvel was first comic book superhero to be adapted into film, in the 1941 movie, “Adventures of Captain Marvel”, by Republic Pictures. In 2019, Shazam will hit the movie theaters in what will probably be a blockbuster. DC’s’Shazam’ movie, starring Zachary Levi as Captain Marvel, will hit the theatres on April 5, 2019. The film has also reportedly cast Mark Strong as its as-yet-unidentified villain as well as the Rock as Black Adam and has David F Samberg as director, reported Entertainment Weekly. So getting this before prices are VERY likely to skyrocket is an understatement. Cause Chucky is cool. Below is the CGC population report for this extremely rare comic (as of 25 February 2018). Hitler, Goering and Goebbels cover. Fawcett Comix Cards on back cover. Otto Binder story, Al Liederman story and art, C. Beck cover and art.
